The second, ethanhaaswasright.com, is pretty interesting. It features five different puzzles, each more difficult than the last, and each with its own video message from Van. There's more to this site than meets the eye, as disabling Javascript reveals the following message:
- ...war came, no longer from the elemental nor from the star's rain of fire. The world was again remade, and the glow was as the coming of the sun upon the Earth. The children of the gods were again too few, scattered and divided and among them walked the ancients and those whose thoughts were not as to the towers and the marvels, but to the End and the destruction of the Earth and to the fires from which nothing could escape.
Not only that, but viewing the page's HTML source reveals a comment that leads us to this hidden page with hints for solving the puzzles. Hopefully that will give you a little help, but if it doesn't, you can skip the puzzles altogether as I've already completed them and have included links to the video messages below.
The only down-side to downloading the videos from the links above is that you can't watch them in your browser, and you'll have to get an FLV player in order to watch them. On the other hand, it does make it pretty convenient if you feel the need to share the video with friends ;).
The last of the official websites, http://ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com, is fairly short. Apparently created by an unbeliever - it may or may not have much to add to the mix.

I agree with twkoch. I think it would be huge for people devoted to sorting this cloverfield mess out to either categorically prove or disprove the connection between the trailer and the ethan and parasite sites. I haven't found any thusfar, and I have a link to the full trailer, up until when transformers starts.

My guess is someone hacked. http://www.sledriding.com/, and it'll only be a matter of time before it's discovered.

download the videos then upload them to mediaconverter.org convert them to wmv or other viewable source of media.
I dont think the the www.ethanhaaswaswrong.com web blog is "unofficial". The second automatic email I received after completing the Ethan Haas was right puzzles, referred to the "Mezin". The creator of the www.ethanhaaswaswrong.com web blog is "Mezin source". Furthermore, the website http://www.ethanhaas.org/ ,which is obviously connected links to both websites as well as the 1/18/08 site. Still remains to be seen whether or not this is related to the cloverfield project. officially. IMHO, this whole thing is in the vein of the "I heart bees" viral campaign for Halo 2 a few years ago.

If you hit the zoom function after right-clicking on 1-18-08 you get a site listing blogspot users supposedly working for Paramount - including Spieler (Spielberg?) and Hanso Corporation (Lost reference)
This also has major references to the Ethan Haas is Wrong - and also talks about being led in the right direction, and mentions Cthulhu quite a bit.
The Rise of Cthulhu? This would definitely be an event worthy of such a large-scale viral campaign, as not even Lovecraft did anything more than create the Cthulhu Mythos, he never wrote anything actually involving a living Cthulhu.
This is a very popular theory, that it's a Cthulhu movie.
Also, if you look closely at the theatrical trailer, there is something flying, GUARANTEEING the monster movie idea, and Cthulhu is described to have wings.
Ethan Haas - this COULD be the new name for Lovecraft's character Abdul Alhazred (spelling?) who wrote the Necronomicon.

I'm pretty sure I know what to do for the second puzzle (the one star shows the alphabed and you have to spell out HAAS) but is there anything I have to do once I spell it out? Or am I doing something wrong :s.

Ok, so I heard about this on the radio when I was driving home, and I just watched the trailer. It looks a lot like a Godzilla movie, but that would be completely lame. Not that Godzilla is a stupid idea, but JJ Abrams is extremely talented and smart, so why would he come up with something as unoriginal as Godzilla?

Anyone figure out an easy way to do level 4??
First, I'm not sure I buy the account on the web of shooting going on in LA right now on a project code-named "Slusho." For the following reason: I don't think the film's release date is 1-18-08. I think the release date is this August, and the events in the film take place on 1-18-08. Viral marketing interest of this sort simply cannot be sustained for that many months, and it would be very odd to release a seasonal blockbuster on such an odd date. In any event the website shows datestamping of 1-18-08 on the photos, which are stills from the trailer. The shooting of the film codenamed Slusho may be an event in the fictional universe of the film, if the film bears some relationship to the fictional beverage Slusho, which is made in Japan, where the character "Rob" in the trailer is going.

There have been a couple request for help with level 4 on here with no response from anyone. I'm convinced no one has gotten past that level! I mean it's a cool game, but come on!

Ignore that last comment on puzzle 4... I had the wrong one. Try this from the wiki. The fourth lock will let you move all 4 pieces through the control of one. However, unless the three key pieces are simultaneously placed into position, you will not be granted access. (↑←↓↓←→↑→↑←←)

need a hint on the fifth puzzple. Where is the message in the stars to decode or is it on the ball that keeps changing??
The 5th puzzle spells out "THEBEGINNINGISTHEEND". Use the alphabet chart by clicking the star in the upper right-hand side to make sure you're using the right symbols for each letter.
Just putting my 2 cents in as far as "Cloverfield" possibilities go.
It is doubtful that "Cloverfield" is about the Cthulhu seeing as there is already a movie called "Cthulhu" set to be released this fall starring Tori Spelling , produced by Arkham Northwest Productions and directed by Dan Gildark and Grant Cogswell. Also, if you listen closely to the trailer for "Cloverfield" a man says "I saw it, it's a lion, it's huge." The Cthulhu looks nothing like a lion and it would also be hard to mistake Godzilla for a lion. Putting the "lion" and the giant ball of firey explosion it seems more like a Chimera or a very similar creature.

And yes, there is another movie titled "Cthulhu" coming out here soon, but it isn't even based on the character. It's actually based on one H.P. Lovecraft's other stories in the series.. And no real mention of Cthulhu, only of the cult that follows him.
So, it is highly possible that "Cloverfield" and the other movie are based on Cthulhu.

umm hey just want to throw it out there, I myself, like every other good blogger, Has been trying to solve this puzzle with no avail, but somethings are kinda ridiculous, like buddy up there the whole slusho websites like slusho.jp have absolutly no relevance to this "cloverfeild" movie, just some poorly drawn acid invoked nightmares.
Second the whole cthulu theory GREAT idea, chances very unlikely. Cthulu does have a following but not that great, cause with a movie being produced by JJ and the blatent attemps to star a blogger honey hive (which is working)would not be wasted on a mythros world that isn't exactly wide known literature, sure it would make all the little goth kids and comic book guys happy but do you really think they would go through this to be like hey its about cthulu and everyone being like, hey whos that, I think its safer to say this movie is on a class of its own and will bring in a new popular mega monster, chances of them using something less original, unlikely
